Tuesday Tutorial: Pop-Top Gift Can

I know by now you all know that I am a sucker for all things containers, especially those that can be used as gift wrap for little treats!  How about altering a can that the recipient pops the top on to find a special treat inside, just for them?? These pop-top  surprise cans are some that I have admired from afar and wanted to try for ages, so today I am sharing the instructions with you!

What You Will Need:
Pop- Top Can (I used a small can of peaches...)
Liquid Adhesive (I used Tombow Mono Multi-- my fave!)
Decorative Cardstock
Embellishments
"Safe-Edge" Can Opener
Whimsie Doodles Stamps (of course!)

Step 1
Flip your can over and using your safety edge can opener, remove the bottom of the can and empty its contents.  Clean the can and the bottom you have just removed.

 Step 2
Next, decorate the outside of your can as desired....
Step 3
Fill the can with small prizes, money, candy or even if a gift card, depending on the size of the can you have chosen to use.  I filled this can using tiny plastic dinosaurs for my son's buddy.  I also stuffed crinkled paper underneath them, so that they wouldn't wiggle around so much and give away the surprise!

Step 4
When you used your safety edge can opener, it created a small lip that you can add adhesive to.  Add your adhesive and hold it tightly in place for a couple of minutes (or if you are impatient like me, you can place something heavy on top for a couple of minutes.)

Step 5
Flip your can over and add your embellishments!  I had this super cute fishie paper and decided to use only a super cute sentiment to make a tag!  The sentiment is from the Whimsie Doodles set, Shell-a-Bration!

Whimsie Doodles Tuesday Tutorial: Easy Treats!

Easy Treat or Tea Bag Holder
This little folder is perfect for holding a sweet little something for your sweetie, a tea bag for a get well goodie or even folded up money (my kind of treat—lol!).

Supplies:
Whimsie Doodles Lil’ Cupid rubber stamp set
(1) piece of cardstock measuring 3-1/2” x 11”.
(1) strip of designer paper or cardstock, measuring 8-1/2” in length (you determine width)
Ribbon, buttons, designer paper, etc, for embellishment
Sticky strip (or other strong adhesive)
Candy or other treat for the pocket

Directions:
Step 1: Take your 3-1/2” x 11” piece of cardstock, and score it at 3-1/2”, 7” and 7-1/2”.
Step 2: On the outer right hand square, you’ll create a triangle by cutting from the bottom edge to the top left hand corner.
Step 3: Apply sticky strip (or other strong adhesive) to the bottom of the triangle and fold it over to create a pocket for your treat.
Step 4: Create a belly band with your 8-1/2” strip of cardstock by folding it around your treat holder and adhering both ends together.
Step 5: Add stamped images and embellishments to complete your project.
Step 6: Add your treat!

Tea Light Paper Weight Tutorial

This is my first try at one of these. I take that back, I tried once before, but not very hard ;) Go easy on me!

Supplies:

Glass tea light holders (mine came in a two-pack at Dollar Tree)
Modge Podge (or another clear drying decoupage medium)
Nestabilities (or other circle cutting tool)
1¾” Circle Punch
Stamps and Ink

Cardstock
Adhesive

Decorative Paper (optional)

Step by Step:
Keep in mind that the finished paperweight will be the tea light holder flipped over.

Step 1:
Stamp image or sentiment that you wish to be in the foreground.
Cut that image out with the smallest Nestie. Mat with a circle cut with the 1-3/4" circle punch.

Step 2:
Lightly cover the matted circles (on the stamped side) with Modge Podge and insert face down into the bottom, so that when you flip the tea light holder upside down, your image will be visible.

Step 3:
Stamp an additional piece of cardstock (or use DP if you prefer) and use Nesties to cut a circle around the image that is large enough to cover the entire top side of the tea light holder.

Step 4:
Lightly cover the bottom edges of the tea light holder with Modge Podge and attach your circle face down, so that when you flip your tea light holder upside down, your images (or DP) will be visible.

Other ideas:
On this paperweight, I omitted the full circle in the foreground and cut out this bat after I colored it. The background scene also has a gravestone popped out with a dimensional, which fits in the opening intended for the candle. The end result makes it look 3D.

If you make one of these, link it up here so that I can see how it turned out! Have fun!
